Educators value the success of all students. Educators care for students and act in their best interests.

For me, it is very important to respect standard 1. Through my time in the education program this far and my time in schools during my first two practicums, I have come to learn that students have a wide range of needs and talents. As each child is different, it is important to take a pedagogical approach that reflects upon and celebrates the many differences among learners. As teachers, we need to shed the idea that there an archetype of a “normal child”, instead, understanding that children exist on a spectrum of ability. Every child is better at some things than others. Communities are great because of differences not in spite of it. Together, we can make learning more representative of all learners and in so respect Standard 1 by working in students’ best interests.
